Obituary for Frank Mackowski

With family by his side, Frank passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly on February 14, 2024 due to an acute bacterial infection at the young age of 55.

Frank was a graduate of Fairport High School, Class of 1986 and received a Bachelor of Science from Le Moyne College in Syracuse in 1990.

Fond childhood memories were created on annual family vacations in the station wagon down to Myrtle Beach, SC. Somehow Frank tolerated the car ride with his two pestering little sisters knowing that dear family friends, the Coopers would join them at the beach. Playing miniature golf, driving go-carts and riding the ocean waves were where Frank was always caught with a smile on his face. Summer adventures to the Adirondack Mountains included fishing, hiking and watching the black bears scrummage through trash cans at the town dump brought laughs and will never be forgotten.

Late in his teenage years, Frank was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, an inflammatory disease, however this did not stop him from living life. Instead, it challenged him and created a passion in Frank to manage the debilitating disease naturally through diet, exercise and most recently the spirituality of Buddhism. His own experiences and education about the body and exercise led Frank to obtain his certification as a Personal Trainer to help others.

Frank loved playing golf and watching golf tournaments with his father. As a teenager he caddied at Oak Hill Country Club and played just about every course in the Rochester and Syracuse area. Frank was also a big-time basketball fan of both college and the NBA. Whether it was the Syracuse Orangemen or Larry Bird, Frank’s cheering could be heard. When he wasn’t hollering at players on TV, in his younger years Frank was jamming to the Bee Gees, Rush, Foreigner and the Styx. His love of music and concerts ranged from The Beatles, to Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Norah Jones and more.

After college, Frank moved back to the Rochester area and worked in sales at a printing company, as well as helped out at the family gourmet food business. Frank continued his friendships with his college buddies and when he could, would travel to different states to attend their annual Super Bowl gatherings--an event he always looked forward to and forever cherished.

With an affection for the outdoors and adventures, Frank drove across the country four times exploring much of the west and east coasts, and spent several years living in Arizona. Eventually, Frank made his way back home to Rochester and enjoyed watching the peacefulness of the birds, deer and other wildlife in his own backyard. He also developed a passion in the keeping our planet and nature protected, as well as helping people in need.

Although Frank leaves behind, his loving mother Mary, his two younger sisters, Ann and Debra, his fun-loving brothers-in-law Kraigh and Jimmy, and his beautiful niece, Sienna, he has reached Nirvana and is reunited eternally with his father, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other loved ones.

Become Enlightened. Reach Nirvana. Begin at the End.
